WHAT IS HYDROPONICS?
‘Nutritious, Delicious, Simple’ is what Hydroponics is all about.
Hydroponics is a sustainable way of growing plants without the use of soil. It uses a water-based mineral nutrient solution, which includes an aggregate substrate, or growing media such as vermiculite, coconut coir, or perlite.
Hydroponics does away with traditional farming by introducing a more convenient, sustainable, energy-efficient, compact system with a higher Green Quotient.
Hydroponics requires very little labor but delivers higher yields. It uses at least 90% less water compared to traditional farming. It can be implemented in a limited space. Consumers can grow out-of-season plants, adhering to their nutritious choices. Though the initial set-up cost can be slightly high, its return on investment is far better.
Various techniques facilitate Hydroponics:
Nutrient Film Technique
NFT hydroponics covers plant roots in a thin film of nutrient-rich water, expertly channeled through sloping troughs. This system meticulously circulates and replenishes the water, ensuring a steady flow of vital nutrients to the plants. However, maintaining this delicate cycle is crucial. If the water film falters, plants either don’t receive any nutrients or become overwatered.
Deep-Water Culture
Plants thrive in a nutrient-rich water solution, suspended with their roots receiving continuous oxygen from an air stone. The system circulates water tirelessly, ensuring every plant gets the nutrients and oxygen it needs. However, this high productivity comes at a cost: constant power. Without it, the air stone and pump cease, leaving the plants to suffocate and potentially die.
Aeroponics
Nutrient-rich water solution is used to nourish plants. To do away with the disadvantages of Deep-Water Culture, plants are suspended in air, and water-rich nutrient solution is misted onto the roots. It is very efficient, as misting allows a higher rate of nutrient absorption by the plants. Even though it has a slightly higher set-up expenditure, its return on investment is pretty high and advantageous.
Vertical towers like MacroTower and MacroTower Mini are a hybrid aeroponic system that solves most of the shortcomings of all other hydroponic systems. It is a futuristic farming method reclaiming the nostalgic charm of the Indian kitchen garden and weaving it with the threads of a sustainable tomorrow.
The story of Hydroponics is not just about technology or sustainability. It is about rekindling a connection to the earth, our families, and our roots. About remembering the joy of watching a seed sprout, the satisfaction of nurturing a plant, the delicious thrill of savoring a homegrown tomato, bursting with the flavor of sunshine, and shared memories.
It is about weaving a future where progress and tradition go hand-in-hand, where concrete jungle blooms with verdant oasis, and where the spirit of the kitchen garden blossoms with full spirit.
The vertical tower being compact, easily transferable, energy-efficient, simple, free of pesticides, and completely automatic, offers a chance to make these dreams come true.
